Tests (30%): There will be a test after each chapter. This will cover all the topics in one chapter. There will also be a mid-term examination upon completion of the first quarter. Absolutely no cheating is allowed. Anyone caught cheating will get a zero for that test and will receive disciplinary action. If a student misses a test due to absence, he/she is responsible for scheduling a time with the teacher to make it up. All test papers will be collected at the end of the semester. Students must retake a test if they have received a failing grade for that test. The retake will be a different but equivalent test.

Homework (25%): You are allowed to seek help from your classmates or directly ask me, but not copy the answers from your classmates. Make sure you understand how you arrived at your answers, as you will be required to show your work. Copying your classmates' homework will result in a zero for your assignment and for anyone else involved. Please remember to always write your name, date, and topic clearly on the top of your paper. Any late homework assignments will be given point deductions of 5% per day. Homework assignments will no longer be accepted after they are more than two weeks late and zeros will be given for those assignments. All students with excused absences will be given a reasonable amount of time to make up missed homework without point deductions. Homework will be graded out of 10 possible points. Grades are based mainly on effort, and also on correct solutions and the completeness of the assignment.

Quizzes (20%): Regular quizzes can be expected, so always be ready, listen attentively, ask questions during discussions, or simply say “I don't get it.” Of course, absolutely no cheating is allowed. Anyone caught cheating will get a zero for that quiz and will receive disciplinary action. All quizzes will be collected at the end of the semester

Classwork/Projects (15%): Students are expected to complete two or more projects per semester. They will be graded based on the criteria set by the teacher (e.g. creativity, effective use of time, neatness, cooperation, etc.). Expectations will be discussed before the start of each project. Also, I will be required each student to have a personal math notebook to take down notes every lesson. Proper note-taking must be observed (e.g. dates, headings, and margins.). Notebooks will be collected and graded periodically throughout the semester. Student will also be required to complete weekly math journal assignments in class. Notebooks and math journals will be included as part of the classwork grade.

Participation/Behavior (10%): All are welcome to talk, to participate, and to ask questions at any time. Never be afraid to speak up if you don't understand something. Students will be expected to solve some problems on the board and to explain their problem-solving to the class. Make an effort to raise your hand in every lesson. Monitor your behavior inside and outside of class. Always be respectful, responsible, honest, and have a sense of integrity.

Final Exam (20% of the final grade):

A final exam will be given at the end of the semester after all the topics have been covered. All the questions will be based on the topics taught throughout the semester. Absolutely no cheating will be tolerated. Anyone caught cheating will get a zero for the exam and will receive disciplinary action.

Your final exam score will be worth 20% of your semester grade. The first quarter grade is worth 40% of your grade, and the second quarter grade is also worth 40%. All three added together gives you your final semester grade.
