Dear Parents/Guardians & Students,
Welcome to Mr. Rico's math class! Time passes so quickly. Summer has ended, and the first semester of the 2016/2017 school year has begun. I hope you all had a great time off, and I am very pleased to welcome you back.
Mathematics is a challenging subject for many students. Some say it's scary, others say it's boring, and most groan, “But, I'll never use this in real life!” As a math teacher, it's my challenge to show my students that math is fascinating, functional, and even fun! I'm happy to take on this challenge, and to show students the infinite value and usefulness of mathematics.
I would like to give you all some information about myself. My name is Florencio “Rence” L. Ricohermoso, but students call me Mr. Rico. I hold a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree with a specialization in Mathematics and a Master of Science in Education degree, Teaching Mathematics 9-12. I have previously taught in private English-instruction schools in the Philippines and in Bangkok, Thailand for over 3 years. This is my eighth school year at Leland and Gray. Since I started in 2009, I have taught Pre-Algebra, Introductory Algebra, Algebra I Parts 1 and 2, Algebra 2, and Euclidean Geometry. This year I'm teaching grades 7 math and Core Math I. I am also coaching an online College Algebra course for University of Texas at Arlington.
I hope to have a mutual cooperation with you in the educational journey of your child. I provided a copy of all the topics to be covered for the whole semester, my grading policy, and also a copy of my classroom expectations to be signed by the student and parents/guardians. Please ask your child about class regularly and check their homework. Always contact me if you have any concerns, comments, suggestions or questions. You can call me at school (365-7355, extension 111), or e-mail me anytime at firstname.lastname@example.org.
My goal as a teacher is to enable my students to master the topics I introduce to them, and to cultivate a positive attitude toward mathematics as a whole. Thank you for your time, and I am looking forward to meeting you and working with your child.
